The Company of the Committed tells five main ideas that Elton Trueblood thinks could have a great impact on Christians and society. There are many Christians who go to church and are continuous churchgoers, but only a portion of them actually goes to serve and worship God. "What is needed is a task force of committed men and women who truly care for God, for the church, and for other people." (pg. 1)
             Elton Trueblood's first idea for restoring the church is "the necessity of commitment." This statement tells about a Christian's commitment to God and to the church. Many men and women go to church every Sunday and sing worship songs, but they are not really "committed to God." Commitment means doing everything according to God's will. If one is committed to God, he would tithe, read God's Word, pray, and do everything in his life for God. "One way of stating the crucial difference between belief and commitment is to say that when commitment occurs there is attached to belief an 'existential index'... If we have any knowledge of human nature, we begin by rejecting the arrogance of self-sufficiency." (pg. 22-23) This is saying that if we are committed to God, we will reject self-sufficiency and do what is right according to God's will.
             Trueblood's second idea is "the call to enlistment." This means we are to spend more time with God. If we are enlisted in God's kingdom, we need to dwell in His Word. There are times in our life when we need to set a time just to be with God. "They need to be where they are free from the compulsion of chit-chat, from the slavery of the telephone, and even from the newspaper." (pg. 44)
