In the story "Yellow Wallpaper" we see the main character, a woman who is struggling and in torment driven to insanity by her loving husband. Her husband who is a doctor thinks that the best cure for her is rest. His belief of what rest is, is very similar to Dr. Silasweir Mitchell.
             Dr. Mitchell is a male doctor who has no idea what a women really need. In a way he is very sexist and confused. He believes that women should be at home and men at work. Dr. Mitchell thinks that women were put on earth to take care of their children and husband. He thinks that an education for a woman should consist of domestic skills and childcare. Dr.Mitchell wants women to pretend that they do not have a brain, especially if they are under the age of 17. After 17, it's okay to use your brain but only for what your spouse to use it for. He actually thinks that too much knowledge or education can cause danger to a woman. What doctor Mitchell doesn't know is that his cure is actually making women worse off. The cure for sickness is not insanity, rather love and comfort is what is needed.
             The story "Yellow Wallpaper" is an example of what can happen if Dr.Mitchell's views are imposed on a woman. The story starts out with a woman who is controlled by her husband John, the doctor. The woman has been feeling ill so her husband has decided to take her life in his hands. She is forbidden to do anything beside sleep and rest. In one scene we see her try to write in a journal, but she must be careful because if she is caught she will be in trouble. Her husband treats her like a child and disregards anything she thinks. He keeps telling her there is nothing wrong with her, that she is the cause of her
