Gun Control

             The Second article to the Amendments of the Constitution of the United States provides: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Merriam-Webster defines gun control as regulation of the selling, owning, and use of guns. Others define it as using two hands. When our founding fathers wrote this Constitution over 200 years ago, the "well-regulated militia" clause they had in mind included all white males. Today the "militia" includes all adults, regardless of gender or race. The founding fathers also allowed the broadness of the Bill of Rights for a change as "the government saw a need." The issues dealing with gun control revolve around many factors. Of these many factors the main ones are freedom, safety of public, and problems associated with guns.
             Some people believe we are free; are we really free? How can we be free if the government wants to control our actions? The freedom to kill is restricted, but this protects the freedom of others to live. Everyone wants our freedom to benefit him or her and wants the freedom and right to defend themselves. They consider guns as a self- defense mechanism or equalizer and believe they will kill or be killed. Does this mean that all people should have the ability to possess whatever arms they wish? No, even pro-gunners believe that there should be obvious limitations and reasonable controls on such weapons as nuclear weapon or other weapon of mass destruction, as well as tanks, bazookas, or automatic machine guns. If the government gives itself the right to disarm us we may as well become a totalitarian society and allow them to control our entire lives.
