If one visits Natchez, Mississippi, and New Orleans, Louisiana, he is immediately aware of the differences between these two southern cities. New Orleans has a population of six hundred thousand, while Natchez has only twenty thousand people. The skyline of New Orleans consists of many skyscrapers, whereas the tallest building in Natchez is St. Mary's Catholic Church. New Orleans is below sea level, and it sits behind a levee that protects it from the waters of the Mississippi River; Natchez, however, sits high above the river on a bluff. New Orleans has a world-class restaurant on every corner, while Natchez has few good restaurants. In New Orleans crimes occur frequently, while the crime rate in Natchez it extremely low. The climate in New Orleans consists of cool winters, hot summers, and high humidity; Natchez, however, has cold winters and hot summers. When one walks around downtown New Orleans, he sees a good number of homeless people. On the other hand, when one walks around Natchez, he does not witness any people living on the streets. Natchez has an abundance of wilderness, while New Orleans is a mass of concrete. Thus, as the above information indicates, the two cities of New Orleans and Natchez are very different.
