Even before the play begins, the stage is lit for everyone to see, perhaps to dispel the idea of mere illusion and create confusion instead. It is only during a change in scenes that the stage is darkened, to indicate a break in the performance.
             Everything on the stage was of Middle-Eastern appearance. The background had Middle-Eastern buildings painted throughout. A café on the (audience's) left of the stage had a sign saying 'Turk', among other things written in Arabic script. There were red Turkish hats hanging off the curtains of the café.
