Tthe Awakening

             A life filled with dissatisfaction often leads to changes. In the book, The Awakening by Kate Chopin, Mrs. Pontellier, the protagonist, doesn't own a life with happiness and her desires. These circumstances get her to think and develop new ideas and perspectives that boost her to progress with her own life style. This surrounds her with unhappiness that soon becomes more intense within her. Throughout the book, Edna changes to be more aware of her needs and more self-possessed of her life due to the fact that she wanted to be somebody in life and she wanted to control her own life.
             In the beginning of the book, we are introduced to a sensitive woman that lacks the ability to rebel and stand by her own beliefs; this soon changes because she needs to be satisfied and to have a little spark of excitement in her ordinary life as a mother. For example, the author states, "Mrs. Pontellier was not a woman given to confidences, a characteristic hitherto contrary to her nature. Even as a child she had lived her own small life all within herself" (18). Edna feels depressed by not having excitement and willpower that soon decides to convert to a new life style. She doesn't behave like a mother due to these feelings within her; she has no other way out but to change. In addition, the author explains, "An indescribable oppression, which seemed to generate in some unfamiliar part of her consciousness, filled her whole being with a vague anguish" (8). Edna felt like she was nobody in her world; her life to her was meaningless and at times exhausting; this lead her to abandon her loving family and her pleasant normal life. She never complained about her life and she never argued about it either, all her feelings were crammed up within her; she couldn't take it anymore and so she exploded.
