Our observation took place of all places at a Central library in a major metropolitan city, on a rainy Sunday afternoon with the possibility of a flash flood watch. Walking on the plaza of the library we could see a large mixture of people gather in front of the Library. They were white, black, old, young and even the homeless waiting for the library to open.
             Entering the front door, which had two huge glass doors with warning signs, posted on them, stating no food, drinks or backpacks allow into the library. When you first walk into the library, you see a security guard posted at a desk sitting between two metal turn stalls. Straight ahead there were a middle size wood oblong desk that had a computer and a sign with information on it. When we arrive there were a white guy sitting behind the desk issuing out library cards. To the right of the information desk were two stands, one with Children videos and another with adult Videos. On the left hand side of the front enter way there were the Circulation desk. This desk was wood and about 48 inches wide and 60 or so inches long. The depth of this desk was least 36 inches to accommodate the four PC workstations. There were three people behind the Circulation desk sitting on high uncomtable looking stools. To the right there were the same formats that were on the left side, but this desk were for returning borrowing materials. It also had a cash register drawer near the counter.
             This Library is a very huge building, with six floors, but only three floors were accessible on Sundays. We walked through each floor and decide to observe the Bibliographic information Center, which seem to be the most popular spot at the Library. Turning left at the return desk is where you would find the Bibliographic Information Center. The first thing I notice were the dirty red worn out carpet on the floor.
