A. Topic: Advisory: Making and Friends and Keeping Them
B. Rational for Advisory Lesson: The goal for this advisory lesson is to help students understand how to develop and maintain friends no matter what the gender, race or ethnicity is. Having students engaged in a discussion about how to make friends will do this.
1. Make sure that students know what the goal ad objective is in the advisory lesson.
2. Have students list words on a sheet of paper that would describe the qualities of a friend.
4. Have each group engage in a discussion on how they make friends
5. Have the groups to list 5 to 10 things they think are important in keeping a good friendship
E. Closing: A major part of middle school is about developing relationships and developing those into friendships. In order to have a positive middle school experience one needs to develop strong relationships with their peers; however this does no just happen. Making and keeping friends takes an understanding of one another and their behaviors. Also through today's talks we never mentioned the importance of having friends that are of the same gender, race, or ethnicity. When making friends one should not notice these things, because it is not a necessity. As long as we are not developing friends because of their gender, race we should be able to develop meaningful friendships.
