Slavery

             "Dreading the next morning, I lay in the dirty straw bed on the ground, pondering about the burdensome labor that lies ahead. Will there ever be a day when I don't have to hide from my owner, Mr. Smith, because he uses me for his own pleasures behind his wife's back? Will there ever be a day when I won't be bound to this land? I long for the day when I won't get brutally whipped for speaking my mind and how I truly feel. Why can't I be like the white folk, they can say and do whatever they please. I came to the States to rid myself of being a slave, but in reality it's the same concept just 3,000 miles away from home. I'm sick of being a piece of property." Do these awful prejudices justify the Constitution?
             My sister seems to disagree with slavery knowing that it contradicts the United States Constitution at the time in history. The Constitution lists all these freedoms that citizens have a right to hold. In the 18th century, the only people that seemed to abide by this important document were the whites. Most African Americans couldn't read thus making them easy targets. If they demanded to see their rights it would do no good because a white person could deceitfully read them false statements and the African Americans wouldn't know the difference. Slavery is taking advantage of the innocent and vulnerable immigrants that wanted nothing but freedom.
             Many people today still strongly agree with slavery in the 18th century. Even highly educated individuals think that African Americans were simply earning their freedom. It was just accustomed then that African Americans were pieces of property and sadly enough, they couldn't do a damn thing about it. But how was justice served when a non African American easily signed a wager and marched right onto American soil through the trusted gates of Ellis Island wanting the same freedom that African Am
