This was another of the causes of the Revolutionary War. One leader of the American Revolution said that the crisis that led to the Revolution happened in 1761. That year during the French and Indian war a court in Massachusetts decided that British Officials could search any premises he chose and could seize any contraband. It was a measure to help authorities fight smuggling. But American saw this differently because the officials could use this as a weapon against anyone who stood in their way, whether they were deemed smugglers or not. John Adams declared that this was when the notion of independence was born (Encarta).
             By the end of the French and Indian War England had a massive war debt. The British politicians decided that the American colonists had been given a free ride during this conflict and thought it was time for the colonists to begin paying their fair share. So it was decided that the colonists taxes were to be increased. The events that followed resulted in many tensions between the British and the Colonists. One of the results of these conflicts was the Revenue Act of 1764. This act addressed the constitutional issue of whether or not the King had the right to tax the colonies. It was the phrase known to all," taxation without representation" that drew many colonists
