There are two stories of the birth of Aphrodite. The first says that she was born from the foam surrounding Uranus's casturated genitals when they feel to the sea. The second story says that Aphrodite was the daughter of a minor goddess Dione.
             Aphrodite was known for her many different powers. To some she was known as the goddess of love and beauty, goddess of ideal love, goddess of light, and goddess of fertility. The men were not alone in fearing the powers of Aphrodite the women did too. Aphrodite would recklessly push people into adventerous love affairs. She was immune to sexual passion. Aphrodite also used her powers to destroy those who tried to disrupt or prevent the natural workings of love or sexuality.
             Aphrodite was also known for her many affairs. Almost all of the men who seen her wanted her for his wife. Even Zeus wanted to marry her. Zeus became angry with her and made her marry Hephaestus. While married to Hephaestus she had many affairs with gods and mortals. Some of her children include Cupid who was the son of her and Zeus. Anteros who she had with Ares . Anteros punished those who failed to return love to others. Some of her other children were the god of marriage, founder of Italy, and the god who represented human lust. She is also linked to hundreds of other affairs and children. Through her children Aphrodite had power over all areas of human emotions.
             Aphrodite always wore a beautiful wreath and her clothes were hand woven by the Graces. The Graces also bathed her and danced with her. Aphrodite also had a magic girdle that would arouse passion for the wearer. She lent the girdle to mortal women all the time to help them with their love life.
             Some of Aphrodite's symbols are the swan, doves, roses, and the dolphin.
