ind has memories of when people had rights and were free to think what they wanted. Winston wrote in his dairy, "Freedom is the Freedom to say that two plus two makes four. If that is granted, all else follows."(pg. 69) By the end of the novel any human qualities essential to Winston is erased leaving a blank sheet of paper to be filled with the Party's thoughts, beliefs, and feelings.
             One technique the Party uses to control ones thoughts is the use of the telescreen.
