What do Cuba, China, and North Korea have in common? Wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to pay for a doctor's appointment, going to the dentist, or even an education like in these countries? How is this possible? All these countries practice Marxism, or in other terms, Communism. Karl Marx was the starter of this practice of government. The question is, should there be a holiday dedicated to him?
Karl Marx was born in 1818 and lived in Prussia, current-day Germany. Marx was born into a Jewish family but converted to Lutheranism shortly after his birth (Kemerling 1). With his father being a lawyer, he had a lot of opportunities. Karl studied law in 1835 taking after his father at the University of Bonn. After a short time, he transferred to the University of Berlin to focus on philosophy (World Book 236). After trying to get several jobs in the philosophy field, he noticed he was unsuccessful due to the fact he criticized religion. This made Marx turn to journalism (Kuhn 1). With this new job of working for the Rheinische Zeitung, a local newspaper, he criticized the Prussian government (World Book 236).
In 1843 Marx married Jenny von Westpahlen. After being married for several years, Marx and his wife fled from Prussia due to problems and moved to Paris. The thing about Paris, at the time, was there were a lot of rebel groups that lived there (World Book 237). After living there for a short period, Marx became part of one of these groups. In this group, three key events happened in Marx's life. First, Marx became involved with socialism. Second, he became friends with Freidrich Engels. And finally, France became allies with Prussia (Marvin 1). After the crackdown, Marx moved to Brussels in 1845.
Once in Brussels, Marx and Engels wrote the Communist Manifesto. This book was the start of communism around the world. After the book was published in February 1848, the next month, the government expelled Marx from Belgium. ...
