Is Censorship really the answer?

Marijuana is a leading problem amongst teens. Most kids can get the drug in their neighborhoods, friend's houses, even at school. Miraculously the school staff members, parents, police, and other authorities seem to be either blind, or helpless. In which ever case, I feel it is safe to say, that at least four out of five teens could accomplish the small task of obtaining a "nickel bag", or one gram of marijuana in less then a week.
In my opinion, however, it is not the availability of the drug, but the popularity surrounding it. Through the years drug use has been glorified generation after generation, in music, movies, and many other forms of entertainment. We see this with marijuana in movies like, "How High". The film features multiple hip-hop icons, such as "Method-Man", that are popular amongst teens. The musicians and "role-models" of this film not only use marijuana consistently from beginning to end, they also attempt to glamorize the drug, creating a poor example for today's teenagers.
The answer to the problem does not lie in censorship. The root of the problem goes deeper then entertainment and media hype. It sits in the stomach of trends. Through all the generations, marijuana has become more and more acceptable. In today's society the majority of teens will not only tell you that it's acceptable to smoke, it's "Cool".
