Of what symbolic value is the California desert?
             I think California desert symbolize "psalm 23" even though I walk through the valley shadow of death I shall fear no evil for thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. In California desert people hardly survive because of the heat but the joads pass through it and came out safely but though grandma' s life was sacrificed because they could not stop to help while she was dying. Let's assume that the whole family is disciples of casy, the disciples in the bible passed through lot of trials and hard times but they survived it. I also think it symbolizes another verse in the bible, "when you pass through the water and through the flame, I will be there (Isaiah 42:2); after they got out of the deadly desert, they saw beautiful land. The desert kind of shows that there is hope for the family after facing their hard times. The last verse of chapter 23 end with words of hope, "surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and shall dwell in the house of the lord forever and ever. The other chapter that symbolizes California desert is Isaiah 42 : 2 and it ends with, "for I am with thee" this is another source of hope.
