In all of the plays by Shakespeare that I have read there are a lot of interesting characters. In reading Timon of Athens I was in introduced to another great character. Timon is this very generous character who likes to help his friends. Timon wants to help his friend Lucilius get married and he bails his friend Ventidius out of jail. Although, Timon does all this and is a generous person his so-called friends do nothing when he is in need.
             In act one scene one a messenger comes to tell Timon that his friend Ventidius is in jail. Timon replies, "my friend when he must need me. I do know him. A gentleman that well deserves a help, which he shall have. I'll pay the debt and free him." (103-105)
             Timon decides to help a friend who is in need. Timon is a generous man willing to do anything for his friends. Timon thinks that what he does for his friends his friends will do in return for him.
             Again in act one scene one Timon is helping another friend who is also his servant, Lucilius. Lucilius wants to get married but does not have the money that it takes to get married. So Timon decided that he is going to help Lucilius. Timon talks to the girl's father, "to build his fortune I will strain a little, for 'tis a bond in man. Give him thy daughter"(146-147). Lucilius is allowed to marry the daughter with the help of Timon's generous offer to help the new couple. Lucilius is a very happy man "Humbly I thank your lordship" (53). Timon is always giving to those around him not thinking of what his generosity is doing to him.
             It is brought to Timon's attention that he is out of money. Timon can't believe that all his money is gone. Timon then asks his servants to go to the houses of his friends and ask them to lend him some money. Flaminius goes to Lucilius's house to ask him to lend Timon some money. Lucilius replies, "that this is not time to ...
