Napster

             Is downloading songs off of Napster morally acceptable?
             My first inclination is to say, no, that downloading an entire song from the Internet is stealing. The artist who recorded the song would actually think so, along with the record label company. It seems quite simple that if a person produces a product then that person is entitled to the profit made by selling that product. That individuals' effort, time, and money, to name a few, were put into making the product. So yes, to have consumers download the product, in this case a song, for free does in the fact constitute stealing. Stealing is, to take (the property of another) without right or permission.
             This is without a doubt, what is being done by downloading songs off of the Internet. However, do not radio stations play an artist's songs repeatedly throughout the day? Cannot an individual record a song from the radio in a manner consistent to that of, "recording the song from an internet site? To this extent, I would say that it is in fact the same thing. It might require more time and effort to record a song off the radio than it does by simply clicking a few buttons with a mouse on the computer; however it is in fact the same scenario. You just download and play.
             This topic brings to mind the concerns of the entertainment industry, a "few" years back that movie videos for the home would have an effect on the actual movie release, in that people wouldn't go to the movie, because they would simply wait for it to come out on video. This of course has not been the case. If anything, I'd say that producers and movie studios have in fact made more money from the release of videos, as the majority of people in today's society of instant gratification, i.e. going to the theater as opposed to waiting for a video release and that same society, in fact, ends up going to the theater and also buying the mov
