ona when I was six. I don't know why these visual memories have stayed with me so long, nor do I know their significance, but they are clear and detailed like the photographs in a picture album.
My father was finally promoted to Captain, which meant that he no longer had to travel. At this point we were living in Alaska, and had established a base of friends. We didn't want to move again. My father retired there.
As a birthday gift, my father gave Mom a restaurant (financial burden included). She was in heaven though. She had always loved being a hostess, and loved the idea of having her own restaurant. Ramona's Roadhouse as it was called was a great attraction in Chugiak. We had regulars come from miles away, because the atmosphere was so great. Our waitresses were so nice.
