e in place because they have always been there or someone else thought that they could do a good job with children. This part of chapter gave me an appreciation and a different point of view for opening up learning about God for the young ones in the church.
             Chapter 2 takes us from the preschooler to the early school years, roughly ages 6-12. I returned to South Carolina and my "home Church" in 1996. I was away in college and the military for more than 25 years. Many of the children who will be going to middle school in the fall were just starting to school when I came home. Their growth has been amazing. This entire chapter, I feel will be beneficial to me and assist me as I minister to children in this age group. When we minister to children in this group we have to minister to or relate to their parents or guardians. I found that the author's listings of "Suggestions to Share with Parents" would be of great assistance to me. The suggestion contained in this chapter, would be helpful to the parent in gaining an understanding of their child(ren). If any of these suggestion are adopted , the spiritual development of the child can be enhanced.
             In Chapter 3, Dr James Minton looks at adolescence. I learned more about theory in this chapter than the previous two. Adolescence is a complex period and it was especially helpful for me to get an understanding of the definitions that have been assigned to adolescence. While a practical application of these definitions and theories is important I found it just as important for me to know some of the technical jargon surrounding this period. I learned from this discussion that we cannot discuss adolescence or at least deal with some of the issues of adolescence without looking at adolescence from a biological, psychological, and sociological perspective.
