             The novel To Have and Have Not has a plot of social realism. This is because Harry is a good man in the story and is being forced to work with tourists, but he also is a fisherman. And when he gets into trouble, he has to face life and figure out he cannot win, yet he still needs to survive. In the story, Harry has to realize the social aspect of things that he gets into and the choices he makes (Lewis 1960). Harry Morgan was being forced to work as a guide for rich, ignorant tourists. So, when times got hard, he would run liquor on the Caribbean. Under the pressures of corrupt and immoral local officials, he moved beyond the law into a series of dangerous and illegal voyages that eventually lead to his death.
