             In Fearless, as a result of his experience of surviving a plane crash, the character of Max literally becomes a 'truth-teller'; he is compelled to speak what he believes to be the truth at all costs - he will not lie. For instance, Max is constantly confronted by his lawyer who is attempting to secure a large financial settlement from the airline (of which he will receive a percentage). In the face of this pressure Max continually asserts that he will not lie; he cannot even bear the suggestion of 'bending the truth'. After having 'passed through death' in the plane crash Max has emerged into a new reality, a reality in which he is no longer connected to those around him, not even his family.
