RM Issues

             During these past few weeks as an RM there hasn't been that many issues that I have dealt with myself in the hall or even on my floor. Two "issues" that's did come up were the propping of the door and beer cans that were left outside the recycling room. I dealt with both situations in different ways.
             I was in one of my resident's room talking to them and attempting to help them with their computer problems. I walked out of their room because I heard talking at the end of the hallway by the loading dock door. So I walked over to where I was hearing the noise. I saw one female resident on her cell phone with the door not just propped but wide open. The door was being held open with a wood crate. I told her that she wasn't allowed to have this door propped open. If she wanted to talk on her cell phone she could walk up to the front of the building and talk there. At first she had just said that she would only be a few minutes. I told her it doesn't matter hoe long you are going to be on the phone for. It's against college policy to prop not just this door but also any door. She said she was sorry and walked to the front of the building. At the next hall council meeting I also made an announcement about the propping of the door and since then I haven't seen it propped yet.
             I felt that reminding the resident of the policy was a helpful way in making her understand why what she was doing was wrong, rather than just telling her wasn't allowed to and leaving it at that. I felt that she cooperated very well too. I know some people may have gotten upset because they had to walk over to the front.
             Another situation that I had to deal with was when I saw the beer cans sitting outside of the recycling room. I think I was on call or backup I don't remember which one. I had just finished doing rounds and decided to jump into the shower. I was in for about fifteen...
