Over the years what's "in" and what's "out" in fashion has changed, and along with it, the stereotypical image of the perfect mate. The gender roles set for men and women have helped each sex define what to look for in a companion. And although everyone has their own taste, we can still observe similarities between each sex about their wants and needs in an ideal partner.
             It's a known fact that males and females are both interested in getting their genes into the next generation. And it's no surprise that those more pertinent for survival are more likely to pass on their genes. We know this from Darwins' Natural Selection. However the Parental Investment Theory explains this fact further. The minimum investment for a male is the release of his sperm, but on the other hand the minimum for a woman is 9 months. This factor is part of the reason why females are choosier than males, and also explains in part why females have the tendency to be more interested in personality traits of males. In turn males try to become the possessor of resources for the females in order to gain their attention.
             Psychological studies have shown that males are more accepting of casual sex, sex without affection, and sex with multiple partners. One provocative study showed that 75% of college men approached by a female stranger, who offered sex following a compliment, accepted the offer, whereas no college women accepted the offer from an equally attractive male. Men are more apt to judge a woman on her appearance. They look for a youthful woman with childbearing hips, subconsciously these attributes signal a woman who is more likely to reproduce.
