ere the lead character, Archie Bunker, was an open racist with very different views on ethnic groups and homosexuals. While he did grow up with most of these views and still practiced most of them he also had a huge heart and somewhat of an open mind which helped him tolerate and even change some of his ideas of these groups of people. Although Archie Bunker was a fictional character I do believe that he helped many members of society in the 1970's have an open mind which helped some views and ideas on different races and sexual orientation change dramatically. As more and more people begin to share the same beliefs in relation to a subject, those beliefs become the social norm and this can be looked at as the standards to which people of a certain society are expected to live. Any behaviour that goes against these standards or the social norms is considered deviant and will usually have some sort of consequences depending on the severity of the deviant activity.
