Having seen the movie Mr. Baseball, I find that the movie aims at delivering the difference between two distinctive cultures; especially how culture influences us unconsciously in our daily lives. In the movie, the baseball player Jack Elliot is a representative of American culture. We can notice that Jack Elliot¡s social intercourse includes the features inherited from this kind of culture: self-centeredness and fulfilling an achievement in an enjoyable way. The Manager Uchiyama San, however, is a traditional Japanese, who emphasizes on teamwork and on a serious attitude towards work.
             It is very appealing to spot how these two clashing cultures meet. By expressing greeting, for instance, the American will shake hands with a new friend while the Japanese only nod. Their ways of table manners also show a great difference in their own cultures. The Japanese show politeness by eating as loudly as possible; on the contrary, the American by keeping quiet. And as Jack¡s girl friend Hiroko says: ¡§Don¡t pour your drink in Japan¡, which is paradoxical to the American DIY culture. These traits are not very difficult to detect from two people with diverse culture. But it is quiet hard to detect in the same society, because it is so inherent that little attention should be paid to.
             Based on the aforementioned instances, we can conclude that the take-for-granted culture can never be wholly conscious in the same group of society. Since there is more than we are conscious of, and it cannot be found and changed until we meet one who is under another take-for-granted-culture influence. In this sense, the only way of understanding culture is we have to be detached from one culture, and embrace the diversity of culture.
