The protagonist in the book "Where the Heart Is" is Novalee Nation. She is involved in almost every aspect of the book. She always goes on no matter what hard things come up in her life. If something is wrong she finds a way to make the best of the situation. She grows stronger from all the bad things that happen to her in the story.
             The antagonist in the book "Where the Heart Is" is Willy Jack Pickens. He is just a loser kind of guy. The kind who think everyone is disposable and he just uses them to get what he wants. This happens all throughout the book, he uses Novalee, Claire Hudson, Jolene, and many others. This causes problems for him as he goes on and ends up in an interesting position.
             Although there are many conflicts in the novel the most important one happened in the beginning. When Novalee is in the bathroom at Wal-Mart Willy Jack, who is her boyfriend, leaves her there. Now Novalee has a major problem, she is stuck in a small town, pregnant and with little money. This part of the book shows how strong Novalee is even though she is scared she knows she must figure out what to do.
             The major theme of the book "Where the Heart Is" is to never give up. This comes across many times with almost every character. Novalee never gives up on getting her dream house and providing for her baby. Willy Jack never gives up his sight on stardom, although his road to get there is less than smooth. When Novalee's baby,
             Americus, is stole Novalee and Sister Husband don't give up on trying to find her. And when Forney leaves and is nowhere to be found Novalee doesn't forget him and eventually tracks him down. There are more ways that the characters persevere and don't stop till they get what they want.
