Why do people care so much about their body image these days? Everyone has their own look, but wants to be something that they are not. The media is the problem; it only shows the world that perfect bodies are in style. This leads people to do crazy and do unhealthy things to their bodies which may lead to death for some people.
Magazine covers for instance only show people with unreal bodies. Take Kate Moss, for example, she is a famous model. Many people want to look like her and have her perfect body. But do the people who want to look like her know her personality? How is she as a person? The society goes through certain extremes to look like a model. It's ridiculous to know what people would do to there health to make there bodies look fashionably sickly. The public does not realize that they do not only get judged by the way they look, but they also get judged by the way they are as a human being.
Women and even men starve themselves to look skinny, and they feel that it is perfectly normal. They do not realize until it is too late that they are only hurting themselves in the long run. Once someone has started starving themselves by either being bulimic or anorexic, they have messed up their bodies for life. Women can hurt themselves by not being able to have children in the future. Both sexes can hurt themselves by not being able to hold food down after they realize that they can die from what they are doing to their bodies. Many people do die a year from some kind of eating disorder.
People in this society also take certain drugs to get the ideal body which is just as bad if not worse then starving yourself. They take things like steroids or diet pills to make their appearance look dreamlike. Most of the society that take pills to make their appearance look unnatural think there is nothing unhealthy about that. They don't feel like it is a disease just like anorexia and bulimia.
