I think that Marijuana should be legalized in the United States. I believe that by keeping it illegal, it remains more of a problem than it would be if it were legal. Most people are ignorant or skeptical when it comes to marijuana use. They tend to believe anything they hear or anything they were raised to believe, whether it be true or untrue. If people were to take a little time to research and find out the basic facts about this remarkable herb than society as a whole might change its views and perceptions to positive instead of negative.
             Marijuana is a lot safer than people think. According to research, when compared to alcohol, marijuana is much less of a hazard. Alcohol causes more highway related deaths than any other drug, and tobacco is highly addictive unlike marijuana. In fact, marijuana is less addicting than caffeine. Marijuana can't be overdosed like alcohol. Studies have concluded that it is physically impossible to smoke the amount of marijuana needed to kill you. Not a single death in the U.S. has resulted solely from ingestion of marijuana. Why must marijuana remain illegal, when alcohol,
             the drug responsible for the most highway deaths in the U.S. remains legal and overlooked? Just like alcohol, when used properly and in moderation, marijuana is safe and harmless.
             Economically, legalizing marijuana would be a wise decision. Paper and cloth manufacturers could use a material called hemp, produced from the plant, to cost effectively make paper, rope, and many other household objects. Legalizing it would also be beneficial to the law enforcement agency. Police and law enforcement officials waste time and money on trying to criminalize those who are otherwise law-abiding citizens who use the herb.
