Leaving home for college the first time is exciting and scary. It's exciting because you are on your own for the first time with no one to set curfews, no one to tell you to do your homework, and no one to tell you to clean your room. However, it's also scary because you are responsible for yourself.
For a while you are wandering between two worlds, the world of home and adolescence and the world of college and adulthood. As for the social life, it is a huge part of college life. Everyone goes to frat parties, but contrary to popular belief, everyone does not drink. People hang out in dorms a lot, but agreed that there are no "party" dorms at all, defeating the "real reason" for some of the students to come to a university rather than a county college.
My social life now involves a lot of studying, preferably, then the "ideal" partying. Usually I socialize on the weekends more than during the week. To me, school is a "down time" and I can relax and get my school work done. My weekends include going home and spending time with my friends and boyfriend.
There is a lot that goes on, on campus, but I am not the type that joins those social groups. I don't really enjoy living here at all, and next year I am probably living home. When it comes to weekend life on campus, an overwhelming majority of students don't stay on campus for the weekend, there is nothing to do and the activities that are here, seem to be geared only to Greeks.
Our school is primarily known as a "suitcase college". This label was given by the residents, because the students pack up and go home for the weekends. The commuters believe otherwise, they think the campus is lively on weekends with plenty to do, but they don't live here.
