             In this essay, I will focus on car adverts and analyse them to understand their meaning and the message they mean to convey.
             Advertising uses communications media to promote the sale of goods and services, and to project a company's image. Modern advertising began in the 19th century in the United States. Businesses found that the best way to reach people was to send catalogues promoting their goods. Advertising is a very powerful tool because it makes people take an interest in something even if they do not need it. Advertising can inspire some people to be the classiest person between their friends. Some advertisements are made especially for men or women implying that the person will be more masculine or feminine he/she purchased the item advertised. It allows companies and businesses to market their merchandise using such mediums as posters, flyers, TV and radio. Advertising is a multi-billion pound industry worldwide. If there was no advertising, there would be no Channel 4, ITV or Channel 5. This is because they receive their money from advertising (Pays for their programmes to be made). Celebrities often endorse products. International products such as Pepsi prefer to use well-known celebrities. Using a celebrity can often ensure that a product sells well.
             Car adverts have developed over the past few decades for in the past there was the stereotypical view of men driving and women in the passenger seat.
             Nowadays there are computer graphics to improve on the car (colour, size, sound etc) and exaggerate whereas in the past you could only comment on what the car had and did.
             The first account of an advert was introduced on the walls of Rome and Pompeii for a restaurant.
             The industrial revolution and advances in rail travel allowed advertising to expand on national levels because it could be internationally advertised.
