The Affects of Violence on Children

            Now days when most children get home from school they turn on the television and watch whatever is on. A lot of times it turns out to be violent programming such as Power Rangers that children watch. Since most of the networks constantly have violent shows geared towards children. After children repeatedly see television violence they start to think that what they see on television is what goes on in real life. Since children watch so much violent television, that over time children will become desensitized to violence.
             Television has a huge impact on a child's life because most kids now see it as a role model they can turn to. As a result of this kids watch more television. Children under the age of 12 watch about 23 hours of TV in an average week. Most teenagers have watched around 15,000 hours of TV. The more television a children watches the more like he is to be exposed to even more television violence. It can lead to psychological problems of distinguishing reality from fiction in many cases. Television is starting to have a more significant influence on how children behave, act and respond to the outside world.
             Violence is all around us in our everyday life and we can't escape it. Most television shows have some kind of violence in them and many times, graphic violence. When children are always seeing this, they might assume and learn that this behavior is normal and that's the way they are supposed to act. Child psychologists believe that violence is not something a child is born with but they have to see it and learn it. By the time children have graduated they will have seen more than 8000 television murders and 100 000 acts of violence.
