             Marriage is very important because it is an institution which promotes stability, family, and is societies lawful way of connecting two people. Marriage allows a couple to officially announce their commitment in the relationship in the eyes of their friends, family, communities, God, the government, and themselves. It is viewed as the first step to the rest of their lives and step stone towards being a family.
             There is much opposition in allowing same sex marriages and unions. The objection is made that marriage is a union between one man and one woman. This can be seen as the "traditional" argument. Many feel traditions are sacred and are meant to be preserved. The counter argument to this is that then woman would never have won the right to vote and slavery would still persist. Marriage has never been a static institution. Restrictions against divorce have been eased and now divorce is commonplace and widely accepted.
