Alabama

             Alabama and Michigan are both beautiful states in our country. They both contribute for example, in manufacturing and farming, although using different kinds of products and crops. They are both valuable and unique in their own right.
             Alabama, one of the southern states of the U.S., is known as the Heart of Dixie. Alabama has a vital part in the nation's future. In Huntsville, Alabama, which is also known as Rocket City, USA, is the site of Redstone Arsenal and the Marshall Space Flight Center. Scientist developed many important rocket and space vehicles, including the Saturn V rocket system that carried the first astronauts to land on the moon. Alabama has many natural resources that are industrialized such as thick pine forests, valuable mineral deposits, and deep rivers. It has valuable mineral deposits of coal and limestone. These minerals are used in the production of iron and steel. Alabama also produces important oil and natural gas fields. The manufacturing accounts for 24 per cent of the gross state product. It has a value of $12 billion yearly. The products manufactured are paper products, chemical products, clothing and textiles, rubber and plastic products. Alabama's leading crop is cotton. Some other important crops are soybeans, peanuts, pecans, corn, hay, oats, sorghum, tobacco, and wheat. In 1980, the census showed there was a population of 3,798,978 people. Many of these people live in Metropolitan areas such as Birmingham, Anniston, Columbus, Dothon, Florence, Gadsen, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa. Some animals in Alabama are bobcats, deer, red and gray foxes, minks, opossums, rabbits, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, and wild turkeys.
