"Serge, can you make the weight?"
"Cause we need you at 119."
"sure no problem," I said to Coach Finkey. Even though I had to lose about six pounds by that night, I was still determined to make the weight. It was the Scottsbluff dual and I would do anything to beat them. So all day I ran between periods and at lunch by 6:30 that night I was weighing 119 exactly.
Weigh ins began, 103 weight was called. We were open at that weight so SB had a win off the back already. Then 112 weight was called, Alex Maldonado of Gering was called and Edward Gallegos both making weight. Next up was 119, I weighed in and made it and Chad Blakbourne weighed in and made it too. Then 125 weight was called Jimmy miller from Gering and David Rosas from SB. The rest of the classes weighed in and we gave up two more opens In some heavier weight classes.
Chad Blackbourne 119 for SB was Jimmy Miller's cousin. Jimmy knowing this, and knowing he could beat him decided to tell Finkey to let him wrestle 119 so he could have a win. Next thing I know I am 125 and Jimmy is 119. 125 after all the dehydrating and killing myself to get down I now have to bump up and wrestle a healthy 125 pounder.
So before the meet our team was pumped even though SB had an 18 point lead we were still going to try our hardest. The first match 103 was open to score was 6 to nothing. SB was winning. Second was 112 class Alex wrestled Edward and messed him up. Teck Falled him in the first period. So the score was 6 to 6. Next came Jimmy at 119 and he pinned his cousin in like 10 seconds so we were leading 12 to 6. Next up was me at 125, since Jimmy couldn't get a win here I had to. The whole match was close and I was tired, I was dehydrated and wrestling up a weight class. Next thing I know my match is in overtime so I just shot a fireman's carry and ended the match real quick. So we were winning 6 to 15.
