The Seperate Peace

Cliff Quakenbush is an example of a low tolerance and tragic character. I wish to discuss 3 issues that contribute to his role in the book, his response to circumstances and how his peers responded to his actions. These are the issues that reveal his sense of character.
Firstly, Cliff Quakenbush's role in Devon society was a middle class of Devon, a senior. Cliff Quakenbush was the crew manager of the Devon rowing team "Quakenbush was the crew manager, and there was something wrong about him" (JohnKnowles66). His attitude towards his job fitted for his team to go all the way through the rowing competition. His role was an important part of the Devon rowing team, his attitude was determined.
Secondly, Cliff Quakenbush was a hard headed manager and no tolerance was put up with his attitude. He was very determined and manipulated to his goal and to accomplish them, he was willing to overcome any obstacles "I've got to get some real help around here, the crew is going to win the New England Scholastics, or my name isn't Cliff Quakenbush"(JohnKnowles67). He is very serious about getting things done: the proper and best way possible.
Lastly, Cliff Quakenbush has a demanding voice and attitude and he was obeyed or you didn't know Cliff Quakenbush's temper and ignorance "Damn right you are! He put indignant conviction into this, pouncing on the first sprig or assertiveness in me" (JohnKNowles68). His voice was demanding as if it were the words that came from your own father's mouth when he sympathized to do your chores. As did, they commanded and went along and at the same time they had the fear and anger built deep inside, holding to the day when they burst against the "Maimed" (JohnKnowles69). Gene describes him when anger came upon him and when he burst his anger towards his attitude.
