Life of Writer

Every piece of writing has unique voices that resonate from the pages. As the story unfolds, the readers feel that they know or can relate to the characters. Choosing the characters for a book is a very important part because the characters are control. The character is similar to an author and creates the future of every story. Being able to select a character that will fulfill the duty is what makes a writer exceed above their peers.
Characters that lighten up a serious situation are always a good choice. These characters act as emotional support for the reader and add interest to dull moments. Faulkner chose characters like these to contrast each other and give the reader numerous points of view. Darl from As I Lay Dying is actually sent to an asylum in the story as a type of irony or anger from his family (254). Faulkner also uses Darl to induce new problems as the Bundrens are on their journey. The reader can not help but to laugh at Darl's misfortunes or to become more interested in the story because of wondering what will happen to Darl next.
Adding a character that has the mind of a child creates simpler versions of the story that the reader can understand easier. Vardaman's misunderstanding of what is happening around his family secures our feelings of confusion over death or loss (84). He also adds some funny or daring parts to the story. He thought that Addie could not breathe in her coffin so he drilled holes in it for her (87). Vardaman is another character of Faulkner's that makes the death of Addie less severe. Vardaman tells the reader many "secrets" that help make situations more clear. He tells about how he saw Darl around the barn and Dewey Dell told him not to say anything, during the fire commotion (217). Without a character that is going to help que the reader in and show behind the scenes, the book would be more difficult to read.
