The parking problem within the University is well known to staff and students alike. One has to drive around to several places within the campus before finally finding a parking space; this sometimes leads to people being late for classes, meetings or appointments.
Hence the need for a system to aid users in avoiding this parking situation. This is where the evolution of microcomputers can come in to assist with this problem. The application of microcomputers in industries, home appliances, and automobiles cannot be over emphasized, hence it is clear why it would be logical to incorporate the use of microcomputers to control a system which could monitor the parking slots in the University.
The actual system itself would consist of electronic boards at all the entrances into the University, these boards will make available information about parking slots which are available and where they could be found. This information would come from the microcomputer, which would have determined the status of all parking slots within the campus.
This project will be a simulation of this system, showing most of the functionality of the system, without most of the actual hardware. It will be implemented using object oriented programming in java, along with suitable mapping software yet to be obtained. The application will consist of three windows showing each of the different components of the system.
The main objective of the project is to create a simulation of the parking slot system for the University of Botswana. There will also be a lot of research into the actual implementation of the system carried out.
