Response to "The Story of a Scar"

             Even though this story was once again about a screwed up relationship that ended in catastrophe, in the end the two main characters learn something from each other. The story starts out in a doctors office with two patients waiting. One of which is a black man and one is a woman with a scar down her entire face. The black man decides to ask as politely as he can about the scar on her face. She begins by being offended and responding sharply, but she gets an answer she likes and begins to talk about how she got her scar.
             She was in a relationship with a retired military person going through college so he could be a teacher. She was at the time a girl who wanted to experience life and have fun. They both work at the post office. She realizes that his life is so orderly that she finds it boring. She doesn't think that she deserves such a man and she doesn't want to burden him. There is another person which works at the post office called Teddy. He is a girl chasin', car racin' fun person who wants to live a little wild. She decides that it would be best to have a relationship with him instead of ruining her boyfriends life, but she just can't get up the nerve to tell him that she wants to break it off. She also is afraid that he isnt the kind of person to let go that easily.
             When he finally finds out he goes crazy. He brings a knife to the post office and tells her to come home and leave this garbage behind. When she doesn't, he starts slashing and stabbing at her. He relalizes that he cant have her so he wont let anyone have her. It takes 3 men to pull him off of her.
             The black man is furious because in the womans mind she has justified what he had done. She downsizes everything to make it sound reasonable. It turns out she has been to a few doctors trying to rid herself of this scar. She asks if the black man thinks he can help her with the scar. The black man reassures her and s
