While in high school there are many rules for which a student must follow in order to not only have a successful day but to keep their day spaced out. At Midway High School there are two breaks during the day that last around ten minutes. The principal monitors the halls along with fellow faculty members. When the noise level reaches a certain height, the principal will revoke the student's privileges of break. Whether he takes one or two breaks the students will be in an uproar. What is too loud and how can one make the call based on the size of the facility?
             One could easily tell as he/she walks through the doors that those 588 students who are in the classrooms would fill the halls if there was an immediate emergency. While there are more mobile units outside the school than classrooms, it is hard to believe that the school still is within safety regulations. As the clock ticks away for first break at 9:45 A.M. the students anxiously await the bell. Once rung the students pile into the open spaces inside the school to relax and converse with their friends. While not even an eighth of the students stay outside on the warmer days, the majority of the student body hangs around the halls or cafeteria. The small school becomes a corral of students who push and shove to get from point A. to point B.
             At strategically placed points around the campus teachers are standing, monitoring the halls to make sure there are no disturbances. As the principal walks around the school he listens for the noise level, which under his rules, has to be at a low level in order to retain the precious breaks. On average there can be anywhere from fifty to eighty students down one hall, depending on where people like to stand. When that many people are crowded around and talking in a normal voice the level of noise begins to rise.
