As a teenager, I was very easily influenced. My eclectic mind made it easier for me to open up and a lot of different kinds of people. This was very important to me because I learned from experience to respect other people and their beliefs. The first time it was put to test is when I met my long time friend Coran. He is what is known to be a "five percenter". My "cousin", or friend, would tell me about how he looked at life through the study of science and math. At first I was a little skeptical, but after listening and seeing the reasoning I realized that it made sense. I was so deeply intrigued by the faith that I began to study it. On my birthday Coran decided to give me a name, which is Kamara-Rose, which means perfect and poised woman. The more I read about the faith the more I began to realize where it stemmed from. The faith, which is referred to as The Nation of Gods and Earths, is a branch off of the Islamic and Christian faith. The Nation of Gods and Earths is very similar to the orthodox Nation of Islam. The Nation of Gods and Earths, more commonly called "five percenters" or "god bodies" are more of an urban, American tradition. The "five percenter" faith is very much like some parts of the contemporary Christian and Islamic faiths, just derived in different ways.
The Nation of Gods and Earths began in prison. When the prisoners in the early seventies searched for purity and knowledge it led them to a man named Elijah Mohammad. Mohammad is most famous for his religious and political affiliation with Malcolm X Shabazz. Like most prisoners Malcom found refuge in obtaining knowledge. Most of the enlightened prisoners introduced him to Elijah and their relationship blossomed. The first example Malcolm was given was the definition of black and white.
