Paper Proposal: I will briefly examine the different branches of law used to indict and convict Nazis of "crimes against humanity" at the Nuremberg trials, and its impact of the development of International Human Rights Law. Also, I propose to look at
             Syllabus: Count four of the four charges against the accused was for "crimes against humanity" and applied to defendants responsible for the death camps, concentration camps, and the killing rampages in the East. Prior to these trials, this count was usually understood to be crimes by a government against its own people. This charge was a novel extension of this concept. The London Charter defined these charges as "murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation, and other inhumane acts committed against any civilian population before or during the war, or persecutions on political, racial, or religious grounds in execution of or in connection with any crimes within the jurisdiction of the International Military Tribunal, whether or not in violation of domestic law of the country where perpetrated." How were prosecutors able to utilize concepts of International Law, Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure, among others, in pursuing criminal charges against numerous defendants? And, what, if any, impacts did it have on the development of International Human Rights law?
