             On Easter morning of 1936, Moon realized that he had a special mission to fulfill. At this time Jesus had appeared to him while he was deep in prayer. Moon was chosen to finish the work Jesus had begun here on earth. For the next nine years Moon prayed and studied the Bible. In 1945 he had finished organizing his teachings and during this time he began his public ministry.
             In May 1, 1954, the Unification Church was born. "At that time most of the followers were men who had left their wives and had joined the Unification Community"(154). The Church also attracted followers from a Christian Woman University. "Reverend Moon nurtured a growing community of faithful disciples. It was known as the weeping church"(3 of 8). By the late 1950's the church spread to Korean cities, and the first missionaries arrived in Japan and the United States.
             On March 16, 1960, Reverend Moon married for the second time. With the marriage between Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han, "Reverend Moon declared that he and his wife are the Messiah and True Parents of all humanity"(8 of 8). One of Reverend Moon's goals was to bare twelve children, which represented the twelve disciples. "Each child considered sinless, and they along with their parents are said to herald the coming perfection of humanity"(154).
             As a world-religion The Unification Church had six goals of its own. These goals are as follows:
             1) To establish new God-centered values.
             The methods used would be to present the true meaning of the Bible, testify to the living God, and give a clear understanding of the original relationship between God and Man.
             2) To unify the denominations of Christianity
             Let all churches come together as one to establish one church centered on Godism.
