Ever since man was created there has been a being that has confused, complex and puzzled the male species of mankind. Even in to day's modern world and its technology, this being has still perplexed man. This being, which lives among us today, is called women. I will attend to do the impossible (as a male) to characterize Faye (who is a women) in "A Secret Sorrow" written by Karen Van Der Zee. Faye in is this story has a rainbow full of emotions that vary to disgrace, self-pity, and happiness.
             First in the beginning of the story, Faye felt disgrace and embarrass to tell anyone of her condition, specifically Kai. She didn't want Kai to look down at her or to be dissatisfied. As she expresses her feelings to Kai "I can't be what you want me to be. We can't have the kind of life you want. I'm so afraid ... you'll be disappointed" (29). She was scared that if she told Kai, that he didn't want to go thru the wedding. Furthermore, she would not survive the feeling of being rejecting to the man she loves. As they continue to argue, she shows her feels when she reveals "I'm afraid ... afraid to marry you" (29). At that frame in time, a wave of emotion fills up her soul.
             One of these emotions was a vast feeling of self-pity. At the present time when she tells him about her condition, her self-confidence is demolish. She wants Kai to be happy and she feels that Kai would be happier with someone else. As the conversation grows deeper with emotions, she utters the words " I don't expert you to play the gentlemen, I don't expect you to throw out a life of dreams just for the sake of chivalry. You don't have to marry me, Kai" (31). Other emotion that she carries is failure, for the feeling that she will ever satisfies him with children of his own.
