The morning of January 19, 1999 was not different from any other morning. I was
awakened by the soft pitter- pat of rain drops on the window sill. There was a crisp coolness in the air as I stumbled down the hall to the bathroom. I turned the faucet on and began to brush my teeth. All of a sudden I was overwhelmed by nausea. My stomach began to churn and I got sick in the sink. I didn't think anything of it since I had been feeling sick for the past couple of days. I just thought I had the flu or something. I finished up in the bathroom and went to the livingroom to watch some television. I lit a cigarette and grabbed the remote. I began flipping through the channels and finally decided on The View. Halfway through The View I began to feel sick again. I ran down the hall to the restroom and got sick for the second time that morning. This time I began to think something was wrong. I asked my friend Betty, who lived with me at the time, what she thought might be wrong with me . She said "Well, Christina when's the last time you had your period?". I thought about it for a minute and realized I was about three days late. That wasn't really unusual for me so I wasn't completely convinced that I was pregnant.
I decided to go down to Walgreens to get a pregnancy test. I got in the car and began to drive. I stared to think about what I would do if I was pregnant. Soon nothing made sense. I was so deep in thought that I missed my exit. I tried to clear my head by telling myself that there was no way I could be pregnant. I finally got to the drugstore and got out of the car in a kind of daze. When I got into the store I began to notice all of the people who had children. I started to wonder what my life would be like if I had a child. I couldn't even begin to imagine. I finally found what I was looking for. I grabbed two just to be sure.
