Fire. It's A Way Out.

Fire. After reading Faulkner's "Barn Burning" and Goethe's "The Holy Longing," fire has a new meaning for me.
Faulkner's character, Abner, is a farm hand who must work hard in order to take care of his large family. Abner, however, does not have a farm of his own to work, so he is forced to work the land of others. Abner has a bad habit of burning down his boss's barns. Some may think that he does it to get revenge or to show his boss that he is better than the work he is doing; however, I believe it's a way out for Abner, a way for Abner to keep in constant control of situation and a way for hmi to never have to settle down and make things right for himself and his family.
In Goethe's poem, he refers to fire as being a way out. In the poem, Goethe says:
you are th butterfly adn you are gone."
The light in the poem is the candle and the butterfly is extremely attracted to it. It is a way out of the dark. According to Goethe, if we haven't experienced this feeling, we are only a "troubled guest on the dark earth."
Until it was time for me to sit down and write this paper, I had never considered fire to be a way out for me. After some though, I realized I have a fire burnign inside of me. It is a fire that burns to keep me focused on my goal. My goal is to graduate! That fire inside of me is a way out, a way out of my current lifestyle. As long as it keeps burning, I will someday not have to wodner how I'm going to afford to pay my bills because the job I currently am at barely makes enough for me to make ends meet. Thanks to this fire inside of me, I will graduate and find a way out of college-life poverty!
