And the people working in the primary industry dropped to 53.8%, while those working in the secondary and tertiary industries climbed to 20.5% and 23.7% respectively. The continued growth of Japan's industries increased the demand for workers. Within ten years (1920-1930), over half of Japan's workers came to work in the secondary and tertiary industries. And almost one-quarter of the Japanese lived in cities.
