2. After Reading the article, IMA, Students, and Professors: Partners in Progress, I found that the IMA offers several different programs to help students in their education to become Accountants and to better prepare them for real jobs in Corporate America.
The IMA gives special membership rates to students that are less than 1/4th the cost of a normal membership plus they will still enjoy the same benefits.
There are student chapters of the IMA that help students practice their leadership skills and also give them further exposure to real world accounting.
Scholarships are given out by the IMA to students who excel in graduate programs.
There is a student publication put out by the IMA at least 3 times a year to help students gain information about employment, salaries, education requirements. The publication also makes students aware of the programs the IMA sponsors for students. In addition to the publication, the IMA also has a student web site.
The IMA has recently added a student committee to its Board of Directors which will present student concerns and issues to the board.
The IMA also sponsors a student case competition in which teams of students create a video presentation that proposes a solution to a case study. The winners present their solutions in front of live judges and the winning team receives cash prizes.
3. Two types of scholarships available from the IMA are the Diversity Scholarship Program and the IMA Memorial Education Fund Scholarship. The Diversity Scholarship is designed to help support minorities and people with disabilities. The IMA Memorial Education Fund Scholarship is designed to support students of Management Accounting who display outstanding potential.
