Sathya Sai Baba was born on 23 November 1926. He is from a small village in south India called Puttaparthi. "As a child, he demonstrated exemplary qualities of compassion, generosity, and wisdom, which clearly distinguished him from the other children of the village." Sai Baba does not belong to any one Religion and he does not propagate any Religion. He was born of Hindu parents and that is as far as his association with one Religion goes. Sai Baba's intention is to show the man way to God-Realization by following strictly the teachings of the religion of one's choice.
             "Sathya Sai Baba has been called by many names, some call him a holy man, others a saint and yet others (the majority of his devotees) consider him an incarnation of the divine principle that has taken human form to lead, comfort and help mankind along the path of Sathya (Truth), Dharma (righteousness), Shanti (Peace) and Prema (Love), so that imbibing these principles man can progress towards God- realization, achieve peace of mind and a state of samadhi (equal mindedness) to face our daily life and living with equanimity." Despite his claim to divinity and to infinite power, Sai Baba maintains that he did not come on earth to establish a religion. Rather he sees his mission as being to restore the Dharma- "the proper and original inner transformation which is the heart and purpose of all genuine religion." As an expression of his recognition of on-going role of existing religious traditions, his logo contains the symbols of Cross, Crescent and Star, Star of David as well as the Hindu Om and the Buddhist wheel.
             Over the years, abundant number of Sai Baba's followers has increased. Each day hundreds of pilgrims visit Baba's ashram for his Darshan. Prashanti Nilayam is Baba's main ashram.
