Of Mice and Men

A story of two friends George Milton and Lennie Small, migrant workers in post- depression California. Who dream of owning a small farm one day.
George is a small statured man, whereas Lennie is a large, strong, simpleton.
Lennie loves to stroke soft things but his immense physical strength is a source of troubles and George is needed to calm him down. They find work on a ranch collecting barley.
However during their stay, Curly, the ranch owners son, who is a pugnacious bully and married to a flirtatious strumpet, attacks Lennie who in turn crushes his hand, thereby waking the interest of Curly's wife. Lennie is fascinated by her, but George warns him to stay away from her because she can cause them trouble.
One day whilst Lennie is in the barn, stroking some new born puppies, she corners him in and invites him to stroke her hair. He gets carried away, she panics and in trying to quieten her screams, he accidently breaks her neck.
George had already warned Lennie that if there was ever any trouble he should hide at a pre-arranged location. Curly forms a lynch party and takes them off in search of Lennie. George finds Lennie and does the honourable thing by shooting him in the back of the head, thereby putting him out of his misery quickly before the vengeful mob capture him. But at the same time he loses his own hopes and dreams of a better future.
