             The Mormon religion is founded upon the story of Joseph Smith from Palmyra, New York circa 1805. His family originally was associated with a group called 'seekers' the time they "were not affiliated with the church, but which respected the teachings of all denominations" (The Mormon Church). Then his family converted to
             Presbyterianism. Because of all the many different Christian groups emerging at the time, Joseph was very confused so he prayed to the Lord in order to figure
             out what religion was designed for people to follow (The Church of). In 1820, Joseph received his first apparition, a vision of the Lord and Jesus his son. They told him that he needed to re-establish the "Church of Christ" because the Church initially structured by Jesus Christ was no longer present on Earth (The Church of).
